Wax On, Wax Off: Kung Fu the Grime Off Your Vehicle during National Car Care Month

April 2nd, 2021 by

You get two for one during the month of April. Not only is April about Easter but it’s also the National Month of Car Care. No better way to handle spring fever than to hop into a clean vehicle and take off an awesome road trip. If you’re not really sure where to start your cleaning car, we’ll lend a hand. Landers Toyota in Little Rock can assist our customers by offering some great tips for spring cleaning for your car!

CLUTTER-FREE: It’s time to clear out the extra pair of winter gloves, ice scraper, and tire chains. Then begin in the interior with cleaning all the windows, vacuum the upholstery, and wipe down the surfaces with car cleaning wipes for a refreshing feel. To keep the resale value of your vehicle in par, wipe down the surfaces again with a protectant so as to protect the vinyl or leather from UV rays. Be sure to keep practical items like a flashlight with fresh batteries for emergencies. This is a must, until Covid-19 is completely beaten and done — a package of disposable face masks and a bottle of hand sanitizer.

WAX ON, WAX OFF: Now it’s time for some elbow grease and give your vehicle a complete wash by hand, or work smarter and not harder and go by the carwash. Sometimes it’s hard to scrub away the bird poop. It’s not something to wait on, either. Waiting too long to clean bird droppings or bug guts off can damage the exterior paint or clear coat. Here’s a helpful cleaning tip to getting bird poop off your vehicle without damaging the exterior paint: spray some WD-40 on the area, let it sit for approximately a minute or a minute and a half, then rinse or wipe away with a soft cloth.

NEED A BREATHER: Along with routine oil changes, check your vehicle’s cabin air filter to see if it needs to be replaced. Not only does a fresh air filter keep your vehicle breathing well, but it also improves your fuel economy. If not checked, some vehicles bypass the filter altogether, allowing dirty air to enter your engine. While the vehicle’s hood is up, check to see if your vehicle has enough windshield wiper fluid, and clear out the dead leaves.
